Emerald Crabs are one of the most popular and effective clean-up crew members for marine aquariums. Known for their bright green coloration and distinctive flattened claws, these hardy reef inhabitants help maintain a cleaner aquarium by grazing on nuisance algae and consuming leftover food. They are especially valued for their ability to control bubble algae (Valonia), making them a favourite choice among reef keepers.

Suitable for most reef and marine aquarium setups, Emerald Crabs are generally peaceful and spend much of their time foraging among live rock, coral structures, and aquarium surfaces. Their natural scavenging behaviour helps reduce detritus buildup while contributing to a healthier and more balanced aquarium environment.

These crabs thrive in stable saltwater conditions with plenty of live rock to explore and hide within. As omnivores, they will graze on algae naturally present in the aquarium but can also be supplemented with algae wafers, marine pellets, and other suitable foods if natural algae levels are low.

Emerald Crabs are relatively easy to care for, making them an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced marine aquarists. Their compact size allows them to navigate tight spaces where algae can accumulate, helping to keep hard-to-reach areas clean. While generally reef safe, larger individuals may occasionally nip at soft corals or small invertebrates if underfed, so regular feeding is recommended.
